John K. Uilkema is experienced in all aspects of mechanical, electro-mechanical, and design patent prosecution, with an emphasis on automotive, medical device, and construction technology.  Mr. Uilkema's trademark experience includes domestic and foreign trademark prosecution and trademark management and defense, including litigation, opposition, and cancellation proceedings.  His reputation in the legal community has earned him Martindale-Hubbell's prestigious "AV" peer rating, which signifies preeminent levels of professionalism and ethical standards.

Mr. Uilkema earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan and his Juris Doctorate degree from George Washington University Law School.  He served as a patent examiner in the United States Patent and Trademark Office for four years before going into private practice, and from 1987 to 2000 he served as an Early Neutral Evaluator for the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.

Mr. Uilkema is a member of the bars of California and the District of Columbia and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where he frequently appears before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.  He is also admitted to practice in all of the United States District Courts of the State of California, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Court of Appeals of the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Mr. Uilkema has served as a member of the American Bar Association's Board of Governors and as Chair of the Intellectual Property Law Section. He has served as a California Bar Delegate to the ABA's House of Delegates since 1992 and currently serves as chair of the Association's Standing Committee on Group and Prepaid Legal Services.  He has testified on behalf of the Association before the Judiciary Committee of the United States Senate, in support of Patent Harmonization and the 1987 Trademark Law Revision Bill. Additionally, Mr. Uilkema has served as President of the San Francisco Intellectual Property Law Association and as a member of the Executive Committee of the State Bar of California Intellectual Property Law Section.  - See more at:
