Joyce Tom has been a patent attorney for over 10 years, and an attorney for over 20 years. Her practice focuses on preparing and prosecuting patent applications relating to cloud computing architecture and technology, computer software and hardware, communication networks and protocols, handheld network enabled devices and applications, digital video signal processing, mechanical devices, and semiconductor device fabrication.

Ms. Tom has a master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering (with an emphasis on electronic properties of materials) from Stanford University and a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science from the University of California at Davis. In 1990, Ms. Tom received her law degree from New York University School of Law. After graduation, she clerked for the Hon. Ferdinand F. Fernandez of the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.

Ms. Tom is admitted to practice in California, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She is a member of the Asian American Bar Association, and the San Francisco Intellectual Property Law Association. As a native San Franciscan, Ms. Tom is a devoted Giants fan.
