MICHAEL SHERRARD - Of Counsel
Michael Sherrard concentrates his practice in technologies involving electrical engineering, semiconductors semiconductor equipment, computers and the internet. He provides an “in-house” perspective to both large companies
and startups, and has significant experience in acquisition-related due diligence work. At Dergosits & Noah, Michael focuses his practice on strategic patent counseling, evaluations of patent validity and infringement,
the preparation and prosecution of patent applications and due dilgence reviews.
Michael is an MIT National Scholar with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and was on the Viking Mars Lander Flight Team shortly after graduating from MIT. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of
Denver. He was a staff attorney for Hewlett-Packard before becoming Patent Counsel for Atari in the early ‘80s. He was at Apple when the Mac was introduced in 1984, and more recently Managing Director of Patents and Licensing
at Applied Materials, where he was also responsible for Mergers and Acquisitions. Michael has also spent time as a solo practitioner, where he concentrated his practice on startups in technology and Internet areas, infringement
analysis and litigation support.
Michael is also expert in law of copyright. He was involved in a number of leading cases involving copyright and video games at Atari and now is active in the field, especially as it applies to computer games and photography
on the internet.
Michael is a member of the California State Bar, and is registered as a Patent Attorney with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
